As a girl how many times did you hear the following while growing up:
“This job is not for girls”,
“This profession is good for girls”,
“You should only opt for a profession where girls are safe”,
“This is not the place for girls”,
“Achche ghar ki ladkiyan ye kaam nahi karti hain”,
“As a woman you must strive to be a good homemaker. Career should not be your priority”,
“A good woman takes care of her husband and children first”,
“Career is not everything for you. You are a girl”,
“A girl must know how to cook. Everything else is negotiable”,
“This profession requires a lot of travel hence, it is not for girls”,
“Ye ladkiyon ka kaam nahi hai”,
“You will never be the breadwinner in the family”,
“Don’t be too ambitious”,
“Nobody likes an aggressive woman. Be sweet and simple. You are not a leader”,
“Don’t worry too much about your career”,
“Choose family not your career”
We, at Drishtikona – Changing Perspectives, bring to you a unique and dynamic 5 day workshop for girls in the age group of 10 to 18 to help them set achievable goals in life and provide a well-researched psychological toolkit on how to go about achieving those.
Why only Girls?
Due to the following reasons:
In most parts of the country girls don’t have the freedom to choose their dreams or how they want to live their lives;
The societal expectations about choosing a particular profession are way higher for girls than students of other genders;
Girls are seldom encouraged to pursue a career of their liking or choice;
There are certain careers which are considered “safe” or “ideal” for women and women are encouraged only to opt for those careers. Most of the time other career options are not even presented to them;
If girls are taught goal setting and achievement since childhood it would develop as a healthy habit which would help them professionally throughout their lives;
This small step taken at childhood could help them break the Glass-Ceiling as an adult;
In most homes girls are encouraged to think of managing a career along with household chores while boys are encouraged only to think of their careers;
In most houses girls perform more chores while boys perform fewer to none;
Boys are taught to be ambitious while girls are discouraged from being ambitious. Parents, teachers and the society at large seem to be afraid of ambitious women.
In a patriarchal society, women discussing ambitions is a great act of rebellion and we, at Drishtikona – Changing Perspectives, excel at rebelling against Patriarchy and teaching your girls to do the same.
This workshop is based on the principle of Ikigai and utilizes the works of David Goleman, Dale Carnegie, Stephen R Covey, Norman Vincent Peale, Rhonda Byrne, Robin Sharma, Paulo Coelho and Deepak Chopra.
